CRT TVs

CRTs (cathode-ray-tubes)are what we used to think of whenever we visualized the TV, however times have changed and CRTs are now the "low" model in a wide variety of TV styles. This also makes them the easiest on your wallet. Depending on what screen size you prefer they can be as low as under $100 to over $1000 for a "big screen" model. However, the screen size does have its limitations due to the way CRTs are built. A very large CRT is impractical for most homes because of their bulky frame. Both the depth and width of such a TV are too large to look right or even fit in a normal sized room. Also they are too heavy to move easily if needed.

On the other hand, CRTs have a few qualities that are rather outstanding when compared with higher-end types. The most prevalent of these advantages is the variety of viewing angles that the CRT allows for. Usually no matter where you sit in a room, as long as you can see the front of the TV, you will receive the same picture quality as someone who is sitting right in front of the screen. No other type of TV can match the quality you can get from a CRT when viewing it from an off-centered angle.

A CRT also allows for a brighter picture which is easier to see. Dull or dark images can take away form your cinematic experience, especially when watching a vividly colored program such as a children's video. CRT picture images move at higher speeds than some TV types which reduces the chance of acquiring images that seem to "trail". Also, one last very good quality of CRTs are their contrast ratios. A high contrast ratio leads to more vivid and crisp images for your viewing pleasure.

A major disadvantage you should consider if thinking about purchasing a CRT with a curved or "bubble" screen is that they are prone to picking up and reflecting light from around the room which imposes a glare on the screen. Purchasing a flat screen CRT will overcome this disadvantage at a slightly higher cost.
