Plasma TV Buying Guide
Plasma TVs are the high-end model of regular TV sets. One of its best assets is that it has the best availability of big screens when compared to lower-end TV models. They are ideal for the family who wants a theater setting without the hassle of a projector, however they are available in smaller sizes as well.
When it comes to image speed rate, plasma TVs are just as good at "trailing" avoidance as CRT TVs. Trailing is where a fast moving image will appear to drag as the TV cannot update the screen fast enough. They also have thin frames which make them a great addition to any room. They also have bright and easy to see pictures as well as great contrast ratios for vivid and radiant colors.
Plasma TVs do have a few disadvantages that one should consider before making such a purchase. First, they are quite costly. A normal sized plasma TV will start at around $1000 and only increase drastically as you move up in size. A "big screen" plasma TV will run you up to $5000. Another concern is that plasma TVs have the shortest life span of almost any other TV model. The last great disadvantage is that they are the most prone to burn-in damage than any other TV model. Burn-in damage happens when a certain image is displayed on the screen so long that it gets "burned-in" and can sometimes be permanent.
When all of these disadvantages of a plasma TV are taken in consideration with their price tag, it makes there high-cost a huge concern for those who don't plan on replacing their new TV for many years to come.
Like LCD TVs, plasma TVs also have a diminished or limited picture view at certain angles, such as if you were setting to the side of or just under the set. However, since most of us watch TV and a couch that is centered in front of the set, it is not a huge concern to many consumers.
